Just this week I caught yet another video-testimonial of a person who was 2 whole months into taking a popular (and expensive) supplement and wow, we're so impressed with their results! (Seriously, I was - I know how that feels).
How exciting! But - only 2 months? 🙄 Talk to me in 2 years. Because this is what happens: We see a product for hair loss. We buy it, we try it. It works for a while. Then the hair loss returns.
Or we realize a benefit from improving an iron deficiency, but then the thinning returns.
If that's you - you should check in with your doctor, or dermatologist to make sure you have accounted for health issues that cause hair loss. raisins dates apricots, currants, but your scalp is not a fruitcake
⚠ Be advised: Any "fast results" kind of glowing product-review of a hair loss product could have been a person experiencing stress-induced or postpartum hair loss that might have recovered naturally anyhow. They may not have known that.
How about some pro tips for some of the more common things we often get wrong?
- DO: Commit to at least 3 months of using the product. 📆 Write it down, or use up 3 months worth of product.
- Don't: Quit a treatment too soon! Two or 3 weeks is not enough time to adjust a complicated biological cycle like hair growth, for the long term.
- DO: Stop using a hair-loss-treatment product if it irritates your skin (or makes you feel sick if you're using a supplement type product).
- DO: Commit to treatments you're willing to use long-term. Especially for pattern hair loss. Set yourself up for success by choosing treatments that fit your lifestyle. ⏳
- Don't: Expect immediate results. Patience is rewarded. 🏅impatience is a + feedback loop
- DO: Assume that if a treatment works, then stops working (and it was not reformulated), something about you may have changed. finasteride your fleas with dish soap!
- DO: Addition, not subtraction. ➕ If something works - like correcting an iron deficiency, or using a topical product... And then it stops working (and your doctor or dermatologist has checked you out) - add something else. Don't stop using the treatment that initially worked. Not right away. Sometimes treatments work so much better together!
- DO: Reach out to other people for help. Especially if something was working, and then it stops working. Your doctor, dermatologist, trichologist, endocrinologist, OB/Gyn. Why not benefit from a little teamwork? bladderwrack choline submarine, lemon tarts, bubblegum minoxidil
